| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Ross County 3 Inverness Clachnacuddin 1 ROSS COUNTY WIN INVERNESS CUP. Ross County brought unalloyed joy to the hearts of their supporters on Monday night when they went to Inverness, defeated Clachnacuddin by 3 goals to 1, and carried off the Inverness Cup. This, it is understood, is the first time that the Inverness Cup has been taken out of Inverness during the 40 years of the competition's existence. In the semi-final, it will be recalled, Ross County at Dingwall defeated Caledonian by 3 goals to 1. In the return game, the tables were turned to the tune of 2 goals to 1. This left Ross County winners on aggregate by 3 goals to 2. There was a large crowd at the Citadel Park, Inverness, on Monday evening, including a big contingent from Ross-shire, with a special train being crowded. Clachnacuddin, the holders of the cup, gave a very unconvincing display and were finally well beaten. Clachnacuddin kicked off and, running up the field, A. Ross scored a splendid goal which gave Lobban little chance. By this time, Urquhart was not on the field. With a full team, Ross County pressed and forced several corners, and ultimately Urquhart beat Lewin, the Clachnacuddin goalkeeper. During the period that followed, both teams had spells of pressure, and if the Clachnacuddin forwards had grasped their chances, they would again have taken the lead. For Ross County, Aird, who was ever on the alert, scored after a scramble in front of the goal. After the resumption, Ross County again took the offensive, and from a pass from Davidson, Cowie scored a third goal. Although Clachnacuddin had several attempts, they failed to score, and at the conclusion, Ross County were worthy winners. The whole Ross County team played well, with Urquhart, Hart, Davidson, Grant, and Aird outstanding. The Clach were poorly served at half and in front, with only Clark and Ross playing to their reputation. It was no fault of the defence that the team was defeated, for Lewin, Logie, and Clyne gave a good account of themselves. The game was played with thorough sportsmanship throughout. At Dingwall, Ross County received a great reception when they came home with the cup. A large crowd of admirers met them at the station and marched in procession to the Town Hall, where cheers were raised for the winners. |
