Brora Rangers 4 Ross County 0 North Cup winners Brora Rangers made Ross County's Highland League championship journey considerably more hazardous last night. The Sutherland side, still fired up by Saturday's silverware triumph, were first to the ball and fully merited their success. League leaders Ross showed more spirit in the second half after an atrocious first 45 minutes, but their worst defeat of the season ensures that the title race is certainly not a one-horse affair. Bobby Wilson's men now require to win seven of their last nine games to be certain of taking the flag. Brora's performance was a warning to the Dingwall men that they still have a lot to do. Wee Gary Farquhar orchestrated the Dudgeon Park club's fine performance, winning his personal duel with County's Gordon Connelly, who has rarely been kept so quite. The home side took the lead in 28 minutes when Andy Mackay crossed to the far post and, with keeper Ure stranded, ROBERTSON headed into an empty net. Four minutes later Farquhar's free kick on the right curled over the defensive wall and MURRAY ran through to power home an excellent header. Andy Mackay almost made it three with a burst down the left and a final shot inches past the far post. Ross County came much more into the game in the first 20 minutes of the second half but Murray, shifted back from centre forward, dominated in a well-organised Brora defence. County's hopes of salvaging something out of the game were snuffed out in 82 minutes when MURRAY stepped up to blast an ankle-high free kick through the defensive wall from 25 yards. Three minutes later Hughes clipped it through for the ever-alert Andy MACKAY to drive in the final nail in County's coffin. Brora's Jack and County's Bellshaw were booked.
