Alloa Athletic 1 Ross County 3 Ross County's emphatic 3-1 Tennants Scottish Cup triumph over Alloa at Recreation Park on Saturday sounded a loud and clear warning to the Second Division. And it has clear significance for East Fife and Queen of the South, who head north to face Inverness Thistle and the Highland League leaders respectively on Saturday, December 29, in the second round of this season's Tennents Scottish Cup. As ecstatic County manager Bobby Wilson said: "If either are planning on being in the hat for the third round draw they will need to be better than Alloa were. "I don't think Second Division clubs have any justification for expecting an easy passage in the cup when they come up against North clubs. "After last week's result at Dingwall I always felt that we could match Alloa, even in their own backyard, and the result speaks volumes for the efforts of the players. "We battled well throughout the game without ever controlling it to the extent we did the first match, but we took our chances well and Johnston Bellshaw, Scott Lemmon and Albert Allan were all outstanding at the back in the second half. "Alloa made the fatal mistake of giving the ball away far too often and that's a recipe for disaster against us." And a disaster it turned out to be for Alloa, who were systematically dismembered on their own patch by the Highland League leaders, who left them with only converted second half penalty by NEWBIGGING to give the result any respectability. Goals from Gary CAMPBELL and Alan DUFF--both coolly taken efforts-- had County in the driving seat with the match barely half-an-hour old and the provider on both occasions was the flying Billy Ferries. Gordon Connelly, who had a quiet game by his own high standards, got in on the act in the second half when he and Brian Grant combined to split the Alloa defence to set up Barry Wilson for County's third goal, which effectively killed off Alloa.
