Ross County 1 Alloa Athletic 1 Alloa Athletic won't be able to use their grandstand in Saturday's Scottish Cup replay with Ross County. It has been condemned as unsafe and the Recreation Park club have installed two portable constructions, each seating 60 people, on either side of the roped-off stand. Alloa directors were impressed with Ross County's £250,000 stand on Saturday and have asked for further information on how it was funded and built. Manager Hugh McCann said: "I think we can learn a few lessons from County and we would love to be able to pull down our stand next summer and build one as impressive as theirs." Twenty-five years after they won 5-3 at Alloa to earn that famous tie with Rangers, the Dingwall men return to Recreation Park and, though disappointed at the 1-1 draw before 1,700 frozen fans, manager Bobby Wilson remains optimistic. "We had our chances to finish them off and it's a bit galling to have put them through the mill without punishing them," he said. "But we have nothing to be frightened of down there. We're capable of finishing the job." Mr McCann admitted: "We expected them to pour all over us in the first 20 minutes and we weren't disappointed. But I thought we controlled the second half and a draw was a fair result." The deteriorating weather chilled County's hopes of maintaining their formidable first half impetus. Victoria Park was icing up by the minute and referee spoke to both managers with 15 minutes to go. Both bosses agreed the ref should try to finish the game. "I'll have to play it by ear," Years told them and, certainly, players were slithering all over place in the closing stages when the surface was downright dangerous. It is probable that had either team scored, the match would have been abandoned. Billy Ferries tore the Alloa defence to shreds in the first half--so much so that the left back did not appear after the interval. A thigh strain curbed the flying winger's second half contribution and he require physiotherapy this week. Gordon Connelly played though not quite 100% fit and he, too, will be back on the treatment table. County's first half ascendancy was such that in one torrid spell they forced eight corners in nine minutes. Yet it was Alloa who broke away for John IRVINE to fire home from 15 yards after County had failed to clear the ball. Robbie WILLIAMSON's diving header from Brian Grant's clever back header soon levelled matters. Robbie scored against East Fife last season and maintains his record of scoring in every Scottish Cup tie. For all County's pressure and good leading-up work they did not get enough shots on target unlike Alloa, who brought three superb saves from Mike Ure.
