Elgin City 1 Ross County 2 Ross County manager Bobby Wilson and his players will tackle Second Division Alloa at Victoria Park in the first round of the Tennents Scottish Cup on Saturday hoping that history repeats itself. The last time County and Alloa met in the national competition, in season 1966-67, the Dingwall side ran out 5-3 winners and went on to capture the Highland League championship. At Borough Briggs on Saturday, they came from behind to beat reigning champions Elgin City 2-1 in a game which produced three goals in the last 11 minutes and underlined a principle manager Bobby Wilson has been drumming into his players all season. He said: "I've always maintained that any side are at their most vulnerable when they've just scored and that was the case with Elgin. "I was quite happy to settle for a goalless draw as the game went into the last 10 minutes and then Gary Loch scored to put City ahead. "We did exactly what I hoped we would do. We attacked straight from the restart and scored immediately to level the game and then went on to grab the winner." LOCH's goal in 79 minutes--with only his second touch after coming on as a substitute--was City's reward for a spell of second half pressure which followed the departure of County's midfield general Gordon Connelly with an ankle injury. Until Connelly left the field, County were in control of the midfield and could have been in front at the interval had Alan Duff and Brian Grant not missed good chances. The County response to going behind came within 60 seconds when Brian GRANT slammed the ball high past Watt. Four minutes later, DUFF wrapped up three more points for the league leaders--after a bad mistake by City keeper Gary Watt who was drawn to the edge of his area as Duff ran on to a chip from Grant. The City keeper got there, but could not clear the danger and Duff rolled the ball into the empty net to grab his fourth goal in two games. Five players--Slavin, Jappy and Teasdale, of City, and Ure and Allan, of County--were booked in a match which was always keenly contested, but which has left County with a problem. Manager Wilson said: "Connelly turned an ankle towards the end of the first half and we had to take him off to stop him aggravating the injury. We'll need to work on the knock to get him fit for next Saturday's cup game, but he should make it."
