Ross County 1 Brora Rangers 2 Brora Rangers marched into the Tennents Highland League Cup semi-finals with a fine win against Ross County at Kingsmills Park last night. The tie had a scrappy first half, with only two clear-cut chances which fell to County. But the match burst into life after the interval with three goals in eight minutes. In 13 minutes, Ross, cutting in from the left, was taken down by Jack in the penalty box. But County's Alan Duff, who had been one of the four heroes in the penalty shoot-out against Caley in the previous round, hit his spot kick against the feet of a diving Stewart and the ball went past the post. A minute later, Duff had a glorious chance to make amends when a Ferries cross gave him a free header on the six-yard line. However, he nodded the ball past the upright. The second half opened with Laidlaw being booked for a tackle on Jack. Bellshaw was also booked later in the game. Brora opened the scoring in 60 minutes, Ross hit over a long ball for Gary FARQUHAR to shoot low into the far corner, with Ure just getting a touch to it. This stung County into attack and five minutes later Somerville, on the right, checked back and left-footed a cross on to the goalline for Robbie Williamson to head home. But Brora bounced back only three minutes later when substitute Mackay crossed for Les MURRAY to half-hit the ball past Ure. County went on the attack, but the Brora defence stood firm, with ex-Ross County goalkeeper Graeme Stewart keeping his old club out of the cup. Brora should have eased the pressure when, with only five minutes to go, Mackay rounded keeper Ure but knocked the ball past the post.
