Caledonian FC 1 Ross County 1 The game kicked off in brilliant sunshine with Ross County the first team to come close in six minutes when Williamson released Somerville but the County fullback's shot was just to high. Caley had Wilson Robertson back in their team line up for the first time this season and youngster Steve Tolmie taking a place on the bench. As the sides prized for an opening a goal came in 16 minutes when after an interchange between Lisle and MacDonald on the Ross County 18 yard line big midfielder LISLE took a return pass to drive the home side in front with keeper Ure helpless. A long ball from County's Robertson released Gordon Connelly with space in the Caley penalty area but Caley's Mike Andrew came in to clear the danger. County almost grabbed the equaliser in 24 minutes when again fullback Somerville found space in the penalty area to drive an effort which keeper Dunlop was glad to see go over. The home side almost increased their lead in 35 minutes after Urquhart on the by line cut the ball back beyond the visiting defence but the on rushing MacDonald couldn't add the finishing effort. Ross County levelled the score in 44 minutes when after a Williamson header had been touched over the bar by keeper Dunlop the resultant corner kick found Gordon CONNELLY rising above the home defence to power a header into the far corner of the net. |
