Ross County 2 Huntly 3 With Cove, Caley and Lossiemouth all slipping up, Huntly gained valuable ground, but manager Paterson says: "We are not the finished article yet and I'll be looking tor some improvement. If we'd lost to County I was ready to concede the title, but now we have given ourselves a decent chance. "I'm delighted with the attitude and commitment of certain players, but we have to keep working on our faults." Paterson's powerhouses certainly showed strength and spirit in smashing County's undefeated home league record. The drive and running power of Dave McGinlay in midfield was the sparkplug which fired his team. Kevin Walker and Eddie Copland were others who inspired with their energy and determination. County will still be a point ahead of Huntly if they win their games in hand, but the champs, with three defeats in a row, are now under pressure and it is a test of character for the team, which manager Bobby Wilson facing tough decisions. Goalkeeper Mike Ure has lost confidence and that is costing goals. He is still a superb shot-stopper, but is now nervy at crosses and erratic in his kicking, faults which triggered the first two Huntly goals. The County manager must also decide on whether to stick by his five-at-the-back, fast-breaking formation or revert to a standard back four in the absence of the injured Williamson and Ferries. "It would be foolish to panic." Ex-Don Andy MacLeod made his debut, coming on as sub. He showed nice touches but got little chance to shine. All the scoring was in the first half. A headed own by the promising Sandy MACLEOD gave Huntly the lead and Eddie COPELAND scored No. 2. In between, Brian GRANT tucked away his 31st goal of the season. A superb Huntly move was crisply polished off by McGINLAY to make it 3-1 then Alan DUFF reduced the leeway with a brilliant solo effort.
