Ross County 11 Fort William 0 Champions Ross County indulged in an astonishing goal romp to inflict Fort William's worst ever senior setback--yet still managed to have their goalkeeper Mike Ure ordered off in the dying minutes. It was a brilliant display of rapid inter-passing from the Dingwall side which destroyed the Lochaber lads and provided County with an incredible 8-0 interval lead in this Press and Journal Inverness Cup tie. Alan Duff led the rout with four well-taken goals, while Brian Grant took his haul for the season to 23 with a splendid hat-trick. Both players will now collect champagne from Ross boss County took only two minutes to hit the front, Ferries crossing for DUFF to crack home a volley from eight yards. six minutes later, a Williamson shot was blocked, Duff hit the bar from the rebound and when the ball came out WILLIAMSON header No. 2. FERRIES made it 3-0 in 23 minutes and then GRANT rattled in further goal. FERRIES hit the goal of the game with a brilliant drive from the left in 31 minutes. DUFF scored just before and just after the interval and in 75 minutes he hit his fourth goal, cheekily lobbing the keeper from 20 yards to take the score into double figures. SOMERVILLE completed the scoring in 80 minutes after a beautiful dribble. A pylon failed beside the County penalty area and, in the gloom, County keeper Mike Ure stepped outside his box to palm the ball away from the in-rushing Calum Maclean. The keeper was red-carded--despite Fort William representations that he be allowed to stay. Winger Barry Wilson went into goal and pulled off a couple of smart saves as luckless Fort at least kept fighting to the end.
