Ross County 3 Elgin City 3 Hamish Morrison will play for Elgin City at Nairn tomorrow night after the ex-Caley goalkeeper threw the Moray men a possible Scottish Cup lifeline. Morrison, making his first senior appearance for 16 months since quitting because of recurring shoulder trouble, was a superb stand-in as Elgin snatched a 3-3 Qualifying Cup first round draw which ended the 100% record of champions Ross County. "He proved he's still a class keeper," said Elgin manager Brian Black, who waits to see if regular choice Gary Watt's back injury eases enough for him to make the replay. But another star showing from Morrison at Nairn could give the Borough Briggs boss a happy problem. Morrison said: "Caley have invited me to be their goalkeeping coach and I'm considering that. "I've been reinstated as an amateur because of my injury, so I need to think carefully about any Highland League comeback. I'm happy to help Elgin just now--and I was pleased with my form." Morrison's display helped Elgin grab a morale-boosting reprieve after complacency cost Ross County what had seemed to be a good victory. Two County goals in a minute before half-time, through Robert ALLAN and Brian GRANT, had over hauled Elgin's opener from Marco DE BARROS. County goalkeeper Mike Ure's blunder let Graeme BENNETT equalise before Gordon CONNELLY made it 3-2. County should have had more--but Elgin showed grit and determination to hang on and Ally JAPPY drove home the last-minute equaliser, with Ure again not his normally reliable self. Brian Black said: "It could be the result that gives us the lift we need. And with this fighting spirit, we can go on and finish the job." Ross County manager Bobby Wilson was unhappy with his forwards for not cashing in. Alan Duff and Brian Grant failed to show their understanding of last season, while Barry Wilson, so outstanding lately could not get crosses on target. But Robbie Williamson was outstanding in his new role as an attacking sweeper for County, while Robert Allan filled the Scott Lemmon vacancy with poise and authority. Elgin looked ragged in defence at times, yet Neil Grant's promise continues to shine through, while the pacey De Barros threatens to become a real personality attacker. The 1,200 fans watched a seesaw, fragmented affair in which County had the class. But Elgin showed courage, and few would forecast the outcome of the replay.
