Ross County 2 Cove Rangers 1 Ross County central defender Scott Lemmon was released from hospital yesterday in plaster to the hip and is unlikely to play again this season. Policeman Lemmon suffered a double fracture of his right leg in a tackle during County's 2-1 win against Cove Rangers at Dingwall and the tragedy has cast a shadow over the TSB Highland League champions super start of six wins in succession. "Scott will be in plaster for two months," said manager Bobby Wilson. "It looks as though we can count him out for the season. It is a sad loss when you consider that last term he was voted player of the year both by his teammates and by our supporters. However, we have enough character in the side to come through such a terrible setback." Lemmon's aerial dominance and reliable defending have been a key feature for County. Ironically, former Ranger Stuart MacFadyen returned yesterday to County after a fortnight's trials with Stock City having sustained eight stitched in an eyebrow gash. Robert Allan, who came on as substitute, did extremely well and the experienced Balintore lad will get first chance to fill the Lemmon vacancy. County's flying winger, Billy Ferries, travels with manager Wilson to Glasgow today to see an orthopaedic surgeon to get a diagnosis on Billy's recurring groin trouble. Sweeper Albert Allan has started cycling to fight his way back to fitness after his knee operation, while cartilage victim Alan Duff signalled he is on the way back with four goals for the Ross reserves. Despite this catalogue of injuries County continued to set a hot pace and they were better winners against Cove than the score line suggests. Cove manager Dave Watson said: "They were just too sharp for us and we were well beaten. However, we are not pressing the panic button over what has been a disappointing start after our bright pre-season form. We just need to settle down and start playing consistently and not just in flashes." Keeper Steve Beckett was in outstanding form for Cove and there may not be a better save all season than the one in which he clawed a viciously striker Gary Ross just over the bar. Gary Campbell's pace and work rate were superb, but Chris SOMERVILLE took County's honours, pushing forward from midfield to score two goals and have another blocked on the line. Andy Paterson was less dominating than of old in the heart of the Cove defence, while Mike Megginson and Stephen have not yet got their act together up front and the vistors best were BAXTER, who scored their goal, Brown and Mackenzie.
