Ross County 2 Caledonian FC 0 Ross County continued their sparkling start to the season with their fifth win in a row to reach the final of the Tennents Highland League Cup at Dingwall last night. Substitute Gary Ross who made sure of that final place with a cracking shot from 15 yards with five minutes left. County had gone ahead in 29 minutes after a terrible blunder by keeper Mark McRitchie, who dropped the ball at Brian Grant's feet with no danger in evidence. Caley fielded new signing Billy Skinner from Inverness Thistle. The former Dundee United defender had a quiet debut, but showed his skill during a Caley purple patch after the interval. After three County corners in the first 15 minutes, County survived a period of sustained Caley pressure but had a close call when Williamson took the ball off Lisle's toe as the striker looked set to beat Ure. Then in 29 minutes came McRitchie's blunder and former Forfar striker GRANT stepped in to slide the ball home for his sixth goal of the season. Caley took command early in the second half. However, Wilson could have settled it for County but over-ran the ball when through on his own. Former Don Ian Polworth came on for Lisle and almost levelled matters, his shot from the wing swerving past with keeper Ure looking on. Then came County's clincher from ROSS with five minutes left. Caley's McAllister, Andrew and Christie, and County's Williamson were booked.
