Ross County 1 Brora Rangers 4 Press and Journal Highland League champions Ross County slumped to their first home league defeat of the season and David Ross, the lanky winger from Kinlochbervie, was the two-goal hero for battling Brora. The Sutherland side carried too much drive and fire for County, who were not in their usual inventive form without midfield playmaker Gordon Connelly, a chickenpox victim. Brora were always dangerous and Hutchison touched a Begg scorcher round the post then Willie Cowie rattled the upright with a 25-yard free kick. The visitors took the lead in 24 minutes when Mackay's cross was dummied by winger Ross at far post and FARQUHAR stabbed it just inside the post. Macmillan held a Grant try as County tried to rally but they lost winger Barry Wilson, withdrawn in 30 minutes with Evanton lad James Winter making his debut. Brora struck again three minutes from half-time when Mackay's cross was missed by the home defence and ROSS crashed the ball low past Hutchinson from 12 yards. The Dingwall side made a big push early in the second half and Macmillan had a fine save from Sandy Macleod's header, then Duff hit the post from close range. But Brora weathered the storm and began to carve more chances of their own. They went three up in 75 minutes with a brilliant piece of play from ROSS, who jinked past Macleod and, from a seemingly impossible angle, he cleverly flicked the ball past the keeper. In 85 minutes it was 4-0 as player-manager Kevin BREMNER got reward for his own unstinting effort when he shot home with County appealing in vain for offside. Two minutes from the end Brian GRANT fired in a consolation goal, but it was too little too late for the champions.
