Huntly 1 Ross County 3 A teenager twice shown the Victoria Park exit by Ross County manager Bobby Wilson single-handedly wrapped up November's Press and Journal Highland League team of the month award for the Dingwall club at Christie Park. Two great goals and a major role in County's third from Gary Ross (19)--a player manager Wilson described as "strictly a one-off"--saw county go to the top of the table with a 3-1 win against unlucky Huntly. "I've given up on the lad twice in the past when he was a member of our youth team and told him he had no future and twice he has come back to try and prove me wrong," said manager Wilson. "The last time I threw him out I was adamant that he had no future with Ross County, but our second-team coach Willie Watt talked me into giving the lad another chance. "Gary has proved Willie's point. He has responded well to the work we are doing with him to break into the first-team squad and he is now getting better by the game. "The lad is a one-off. He packs a shot in both feet and he's strong, but he doesn't link up with other players too well and tends to play the game in a very off-the-cuff sort of way." Three times the Easter Ross teenager broke the Strathbogie side's hearts with telling contributions which were the difference between the two sides at the end of a great game full of attractive football. Gary ROSS popped up on the blind side at a free kick with a great far-post header to cancel out a 12th-minute Doug ROUGVIE header which got Huntly off to a great start. It was Gary's right-foot shot which dropped for Brian GRANT after John Gardiner pulled off an acrobatic save just before the interval and ROSS rifled in County's third with the other foot early in the second half. Seldom will a side dominate a game as thoroughly as Huntly did and still come off second-best. They were so far on top over the 90 minutes that the County manager saw a new facet of his own side emerge under pressure. He said: "We don't often get called on to defend as much as we had to at Huntly. I thought the back four did a great job and Steve Hutchison had his best game since he joined us from Falkirk. "Huntly will feel aggrieved at losing after playing so well, but i think their performance will give Steve Paterson some comfort in the build-up to the Scottish Cup game on Saturday against Stranraer." With Rougvie in commanding form at the heart of a successful experimental with a flat back four, Huntly were rarely threatened and manager Paterson was quick to dismiss the fact his side had conceded three goals. He said: "We dominated the game to such an extent that the 3-1 result is a bit of a freak and it won't effect my thinking about Saturday's cup tie at all because there was far too much about our performance which was positive and encouraging. "In any other circumstances a performance like that would have seen us win by seven or eight goals because we had three certain goals cleared off the line in the second half."
