Ross County 0 Airdrie United 1 Ross County drew a blank for the fifth match running as new manager Scott Leitch failed to get his career off to a winning start at Victoria Park. The former Motherwell captain, Who took charge on Thursday, blamed a strong wind and missed chances for his team's poor performance. He said: "The wind spoiled it in the first half, but if we had taken our chances we could have been one or two up. "Airdrie had the wind in the second half and managed to score a good goal. But it was a defensive mistake, which was disappointing." Sickness hit the County camp, and first team players David Cowan and Neil MacDonald were among the victims. David Niven came in at right back and did a good job, but he was one of only a few County players to earn pass marks. With the elements in their favour the home side started well, and a clever David Winters pass should have sent Sean Higgins in on goal, but the County forward failed to capitalise. Winters sent a dangerous ball to the back post a couple of minutes later, but Diamonds goalkeeper Stephen Robertson punched the ball away before Kevin McKinlay could pounce. The visitors' only effort of the first half came on the half hour mark when Gary Twigg sent a weak shot past Joe Malin's right hand post when better options were open. But it was mostly County and Don Cowie missed a good chance when he was gifted the ball by Robertson, but the midfielder blazed wide. Airdrie adapted better to the conditions in the second half, and after former Caley Thistle player Brian Prunty forced a save from Malin with a header, Steven McKeown's header crashed off the inside of the post. But the winner arrived in the next attack. McKeown produced a perfect cross which was headed in by Twigg. County tried hard to get back on level terms and McKinlay was denied by the post after Robertson failed to hold a John Rankin free kick. Airdrie manager Sandy Stewart said: "We came out well in the second half and scored a good goal. I think we were worthy winners."
