Brechin City 3 Ross County 3 Defiant Ross County caretaker manager Gardner Speirs is not giving up on the First Division title--despite the loss of two valuable points in this draw with lowly Brechin. "We can still win it," he said--acutely aware that former County loanee Charlie Adam had probably ended the Highlanders' chances. Adam's winning goal for St Mirren at Clyde means the Buddies now lead the Staggies by nine points--with just seven games remaining. Speirs added: "I wouldn't say we are out of the race because it is still mathematically possible for us to win, although we will have to play a lot better than we did here if we are to do that." Brechin's search for a new manager is well under way, but the Glebe Park club's committee might not have to look too far one candidate to replace Ian Campbell. While caretaker coaches John Hillcoat and Paul Deas do not want the job, it is fair to assume that David Hannah, the former Celtic midfielder, probably does. After signing as an amateur player on Thursday, he capped his Brechin debut with a goal from the penalty spot. Hannah insists it is simply a quirk of fate that he has joined Brechin four days after Campbell was relieved of his duties. He said: "Ian had been giving me training facilities for a few weeks after I left Bury, so the move was already in the pipeline. "I never came here with the intention of becoming manager. I signed as a player and it is up to the people behind the scenes here to decide who the next manager will be. "I am certainly looking to get into management, but if nothing comes along, so be it. I will just keep playing." Hannah played a key role as Brechin established a 3-1 lead before being pegged back by two goals in the final eight minutes. His cross was cleared to Scott Walker, who controlled the ball with his chest then volleyed in a magnificent opener from 20 yards with 15 minutes gone. County replied after the break through Lionel Djebi-Zadi's trundler. But Hannah restored the lead from the spot three minutes later when Jim Lauchlan handled in the box. Grant Johnson seemed to seal the win on 77 minutes as he cleverly lobbed Stevie Hampshire's cross over his own head and beyond goalkeeper Ian McCaldon. But Sean Webb reduced the deficit when he clipped in Lauchlan's cutback before David Winters levelled in controversial circumstances. With referee Crawford Allan waving play on, Winters coolly rolled the ball under Craig Nelson to make it 3-3 and keep alive the Dingwall outfit's slim title hopes.
