Ross County 2 Saint Johnstone 2 A remarkable late equaliser by the St Johnstone goalkeeper denied Ross County all three points in a rough and tumble match at Victoria Park. As the Saints lay siege on the County goal, Mathew Glennon raced upfield to fire the ball high into the net from a corner kick. However, the result did neither side any favours as First Division leaders St Mirren grabbed a last minute winner against Queen of the South to stretch their advantage to seven points. But County caretaker manager Gardner Speirs still thinks his side has a realistic chance of catching the Buddies. He said: "Obviously, we are disappointed we did not win the game. I thought we played well enough to take all three points, but there is still a long way to go yet. "Certainly on the balance of play I thought we should have won, but credit to St Johnstone for not giving up and fighting back." Gary McSwegan made a rare appearance up front for County in place of David Winters and Stephen Dobbie replaced Ryan Stevenson in the Saints line-up. County started brightly and Sean Higgins just failed to connect with a Don Cowie cross in the 15th minute right in front of goal. Then Cowie's angled drive was blocked by Glennon before Kevin Rutkiewicz got in the way of a goal bound effort from Sean Higgins. Tackles were flying in from all angles as the pitch started to cut up, and Martin Hardie was the first player in referee Steve Conroy's book in what was to be a busy afternoon for the match official. In Saints' first attack in the 20th minute, Kevin James sent a weak header into the arms of Stuart Garden, but the visitors took the lead a couple of minutes later. Following a corner James sent a header across the County goal and Jim Lauchlan redirected the ball high into his own net past Garden. The County goalkeeper injured himself when he collided with the post and was replaced by Joseph Malin. John Rankin had a chance to put County ahead just before the interval when he latched on to a Cowie cutback, but the midfielder pushed his shot narrowly part Glennon's right post. Saints adopted a more positive approach at the start of the second half and Jason Scotland was unlucky when his shot was deflected over by David Cowan then Rutkiewicz had goal chalked off for pushing. County equalised in the 70th minute when a Cowie corner was knocked down by Lionel Djebi-Zadi for Higgins to sweep the ball home. County went ahead 13 minutes later when they were awarded a soft penalty. Sean Webb was adjudged to have been impeded by Hardie inside the area and substitute Winters converted from the spot. Back came Saints and after they forced four corners in succession up popped Glennon to grab a dramatic equaliser in the 88th minute. Saints boss Owen Coyle said: "The title race is not over yet, but St mirren are in a very strong position."
