Ross County 3 Clyde 1 Ross County maintained their perfect Premier Sports Cup start as a 3-1 home win against League Two Clyde sets up a top-two clash with Dundee. In their first home fixture of the new season, it took just one minute and 50 seconds for County, who were relegated from the Championship in May, to take the lead as Brian Graham headed the hosts in front. Richard Chin doubled the advantage just a few minutes later but Clyde battled back and Nathan Cannon headed the visitors into the tie after 20 minutes after sloppy defending from a corner. An early Graham penalty in the second half calmed the nerves for home fans and Clyde could find no way back from this point. County host Premiership side Dundee on Tuesday, a game which should go a long way to deciding who wins the group, with the Dark Blues only ahead on goal difference. Kettlewell felt it was a game which could, and should, have been made easier for his players had they shown a sharper side in attack. He said: “It was a brilliant start to the game. We scored a couple of good goals. “I just felt that was something for us to really build on and we didn’t do that enough. I was happy with a lot of aspects of the play. “However, we created a bit of an incentive for the opposition when there was no need to do that. “They put a couple of balls into our box, and we didn’t deal with them well enough or command the area well enough. “Clyde started to smell something in the game for them and they had some great corners and an incredible throw-in from Kyle Connell, as well as free-kicks. “That’s an easy part of the game to deal with. “We started well in the second half and scored the third goal. Then we had a hatful of chances, and we could easily have made that game four, five or six. “We had chances for Brian Graham before he came off and Luke McCarvel and they were good chances, not half chances. “That becomes a bit of a lesson for us, but we’re a work in progress. To be a work in progress while you’re winning games of football, well then you have got the outcome of the game.” For the second week running, captain Graham walked off with two goals, but he was a whisker away from making it three. Nonetheless, Kettlewell was delighted with the ex-Partick Thistle striker’s contribution following his return to the club this summer. He added: “Brian had a laugh with me last week when I took him off when he was on a double. “I said it was his fault this week because it was a golden chance seconds before he came off. “He could have had a hat-trick, but we all know that through time what Brian does. He allows others around him to be better. “He’s in the correct position and he understands the game. “Not disrespectfully, but this is an opportunity in this competition to get your numbers of goals up really quickly. It offers a real positive mindset for players individually and it helps us collectively.
