Ross County 3 Fraserburgh 0

The County played their last Highland League game at home, when they took full points from Fraserburgh with a three-goal to nil victory. Fraserburgh, in the first game of the season, defeated the County by two goals to one at the Broch. A strong wind blew into the Prison goal, and in the first half, with its help, Fraserburgh had most of the play. The few spasmodic raids which the County indulged in were dangerous and spelled trouble, but the Fraserburgh defence, on the whole, was very rarely in difficulty. Had the Fishermen a forward who could shoot, they should have had at least a lead of four goals. As it was, their shooting was hopeless, and the only real shot of this half came from John Davidson, whose powerful drive was cleverly pushed over the bar by Ross in the County goal. The second half gave the County the upper hand, but clever combined forward work by the nippy Fraserburgh five kept the game lively. The first goal was secured by Urquhart, who converted a penalty given against Ballantyne. As if to make amends, Ballantyne went through on his own and had the worst of luck in not scoring when he had an empty goal to shoot into. It was a very fine bit of play and showed the big centre-half for what he is: an exceptionally good footballer. L. Scott, in the Fraserburgh goal, was distinguishing himself, but he had to admit defeat again when Finlayson let Aird away on his own; the centre made no mistake. Fraserburgh gradually tired, and the County snatched another point, Aird again being the scorer, meeting a cross from McNicol. With Watt at centre-forward, Fraserburgh again livened up and were worthy of a score before time ended a good game spoiled by the wind.
