| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Inverness Clachnacuddin 2 Ross County 0 Ross County were late in arriving and to make things worse, when they did arrive, they were minus their football boots, stockings, shorts and jerseys. Apparently their hamper had been put on the wrong train. Clachnacuddin endeavoured to fit them out, but the missing hamper arrived in time for Ross County to take the field when the first half should have been ending. Clachnacuddin deserve a word of praise for the splendid condition of their playing pitch. It was excellent, and the football played on it should have been a lot better. Too many passes went astray, and the shooting on both sides left a lot to be desired. Probably, as it was the first game of the season, too high a standard should not have been expected, but both teams gave the impression they could have done much better. Clachnacuddin deserved their win. They generally forced the pace in the first half and led at half-time through a goal scored by Wemyss, who was on the right wing. The goal came after 25 minutes from the start, when Mackenzie pushed out a shot from Ian Munro. Wemyss was on the spot and put the ball into the net before Mackenzie could recover. The second goal came early in the second half, Lisle, the young centre forward, connecting with a Wemyss cross. Ross County's best play was seen in the second half, but the shooting of the forwards was very weak and Macdougall in goal easily dealt with the shots that came his way. Mackenzie, in goal, played splendidly and was not to blame for either of the goals. At back, Ross and Jack were fairly good. Both, however, are promising and with a little more experience will pay their way. The half-line was better all over than the Clach trio. Forsyth was the best individual player on the field. He, perhaps, did not assist the forwards too much, but that was because he had to support his backs. This he did magnificently. Macdonald and Wood worked hard. They fed the wing men well and it was unfortunate these could not make better use of the ball when they got it. Macmahon was the best man in front. He will do well for the county. Stewart came next, but he will have to improve his shooting. The ball did not run well for Gow, but both he and Urquhart missed several chances in front of goal. Macdougall and Lisle were making their senior debut, as was also Maclennan at right-half. All three gave a promising display, and among the older players, Davidson, Lawson and Wemyss were the most effective. Baxter's kicking was not too certain, and he missed a penalty a few minutes from the end. |
