| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Inverness Clachnacuddin 3 Ross County 2 After Extra Time. Clachnacuddin met Ross County in the second leg of the first round of the North of Scotland Cup competition at Grant Street, Inverness, on Saturday. At Dingwall, the same resulted in a draw without any scoring. At the commencement the visitors pressed hard and became dangerous. After 15 minutes' smart play they registered the first goal through Hunter. Play livened up, and soon after the visitors, who had better combined tactics, scored another goal through Glover. Ross County thus early proved their superiority. Clachnacuddin were full of pluck, but showed a sad lack of combination amongst the forwards. However, their chance came when a corner was awarded them, with Wemyss cleverly heading the ball home. The score stood at half-time, 2-1 for the County, who were definitely the stronger and more confident team, and had the best of the period. The ground team, however, began briskly at the outset of the second half, and were all out to secure the equaliser. It soon came when Baxter, who had made many mistakes, did well in driving home a hard ball at close range. Two goals each, the teams strove for the winning one. The Clachnacuddin shaped better, but many scoring chances went astray. Ross County, well on in the period, retaliated strongly, with Hunter, Clark and Glover combining accurately. Play ranged from end to end, with both teams attacking fiercely, but no goals were scored, although play was mainly in the Ross County half of the field. Indeed, the Clachnacuddin had the winner in their pocket if Sutherland had taken advantage of a penalty kick awarded to his team. He tamely sent the ball into the goalkeeper's hands. The game came to a close with the score still a draw of two goals each. An extra half-hour was played, and Baxter registered the winning goal for Clachnacuddin. While the winners deserve to be congratulated on their performance the visitors showed clever play, and with a little luck might have had another point. Ross County threw away the game as they did in the first meeting of the teams at Dingwall. |
