Ross County 4 Cove Rangers 0 Injured Billy Ferries, Ross County's personality winger, will still play a part in the Dingwall club's bid for their first Highland League title in 25 years. Billy, who has been playing with a groin strain for some weeks, was left out on Saturday--and County rediscovered their missing fluency in a superb 4-0 home win which has surely ended Cove Rangers' title challenge. But manager Bobby Wilson said: "There's no way Billy's season is over. He experience could be vital on the run-in. But he has been carrying this injury and it has affected his form. He needed a rest and I'll pick and choose when to use him, depending on the opposition." Cove's Dave Watson paid tribute to County's performance, saying: "They were very impressive and really pressurised us from the start. But I was encouraged at how well we came back in the second half after being three goals down at the interval." The 900 fans roared with relief as County, after a sticky spell culminating in defeat from Inverness Thistle, surged back into the form which has made them the long-term table-toppers. Cove were almost over-run in the first half when County might have had six goals, such was their pressure and skilful leading-up work. Cove started with four men in midfield--yet they were over-run at times in that department. Cammy Robertson, the club skipper, has not been a regular in the Ross line-up in the past couple of months because he has been working in Fife. But the big fellow made an extremely effective return, his drive in left midfield posing plenty of problems for the homesters. Yet after half-an-hour of rapid-fire raiding, County had nothing to show for it. Then Chris SOMERVILLE hammered home a 25 yarder--and within seven minutes it was 3-0, Alan DUFF slotting his 28th goal of the season and Brian GRANT almost tearing the net apart with a scorcher from the edge of the box. Cove had a lot of play in the second half when County keeper Mike Ure and his defence showed their calibre--and Ure's save from Donald Smith's header was truly memorable. GRANT sealed County's win in the final minutes and the confidence has flooded back into what had been a wobbly team. The strikers had lost their killer touch--but Duff and Grant were back in the mood with a vengeance. Scott Lemmon had another outstanding performance for the Dingwall side, while Cove were well served by young Kenny Mackenzie at centre half and Ronnie Brown at sweeper. Jamie McPherson made an encouraging appearance as substitute and the lad, who broke his ankle a year ago, has been assured by manager Wilson that he figures very prominently in County's plan for the future. "Jamie has such talent that he has a great deal to offer this club--all he needs is to believe that himself," said Bobby.
