Ross County 1 Elgin City 4 The final score of Ross County 1 Elgin City 4 in the first round of the North of Scotland Cup competition, was perhaps the one which shocked north soccer fans most around about five last Saturday afternoon. And it also shocked the league leader's own faithful who had numbered over 850 and who had seen their side hold the whip hand during the first 45 minutes but fail miserably to turn their superiority into goals. After tea-time, Elgin--already defeated twice home and away by County this season, appeared to realise they could win the tie and proceeded to do just that. Perhaps County were suffering from their herculean effort two nights before in the Scottish Cup, for they disappeared almost completely as an attacking force and, in the end, put up very little opposition against the more eager and livelier Elgin combine. County rested Billy Ferries, Gary Campbell and Alan Duff, with usual subs Barry Wilson, Cammy Robertson and a fit again Albert Allan being drafted in. It was particularly pleasing to see the luckless Albert back in the fray and it must have pleased manager Bobby Wilson to see him play well and never shirk a tackle. Elgin were three up through JAPPY (62), WILL (66) and Mackay (71) before Robert ALLAN pulled one back in 80 minutes, only to turn from scorer to sinner by lobbing his own keeper with just two minutes left to complete an afternoon of woe for County.
