Forres Mechanics 3 Ross County 1 Holders Forres Mechanics booked their place in the Press and Journal Inverness Cup final with a 3-1 victory over Ross County last night at Mosset Park. They killed off the TSB Highland League leaders with two goals in seven minute early in the second half. Ross County went straight on to the attack and Forres keeper Gray was in action in only the second minute, diving to push a shot from Lemmon round his right hand post, but Forres responded with a driving run and shot from Thomson in 10 minutes which drew an equally good save from County stand-in keeper Ross Cathcart. Walker had the County keeper scrambling backwards in 17 minutes with a dipping shot from fully 40 yards which just cleared the crossbar. The best chance of the first half fell a minute later to Graeme Cameron, who rounded Cathcart and then put his finishing effort well wide from six yards. Forres were lucky in 40 minutes when Duff and Lemmon, both with headers and a shot from Connelly all cannoned off the crossbar in the space of a minute. MINTY rocked County in the last minute of the first half when he ran the ball into an empty net after the County keeper slipped going for a pass back from Lemmon. The crossbar at the west end of Mosset Park continued to play a major part three minutes into the second half when a 20 yard half-volley from Mackay beat Cathcart and rattled back into play, but when a Grant shot crashed down off the bar three minutes later THOMSON was following up to force the rebound over the line. CAMERON grabbed the goal of the game in 58 minutes when he finished a great Forres move, taking a cross from Grant down on the six-yard line to crash the ball past Cathcart. County pulled a goal back in 66 minutes when WILLIAMSON headed a Ferries cross in off the near post and Duff was inches away from adding a second with his shot on the turn seven minutes later. The home side could have had a fourth goal in the dying minutes when Minty whipped in a cross from the right only to see Lemmon hack Cameron's finishing shot off the line.
