Ross County 3 Caledonian FC 2 Brian Grant scored twice on his debut at Victoria Park last night to help Ross County go top of the TSB Highland League on goal difference after 90 minutes of hectic and entertaining action. The home side put together a three goal lead in a devastating 13 minute opening burst, but Caley fought back with two goals early in the second half and were unlucky not to take a point. County got off to a dream start. In just four minutes, Ferries left Polson for dead and slipped a neat pass into the path of GRANT, who steered the ball past McRitchie from 10yd. The dream debut continued when GRANT rammed the ball home from a narrow angle at the near post to give County a 2-0 lead after only eight minutes. The visitors' misery mounted five minutes later when Roddy Davidson ended a tremendous 60yd. run from Barry Wilson with a tackle from behind as the young winger bored into the Caley box. Referee Stuart Logan pointed to the spot and CONNELLY made no mistake with the penalty kick. Charlie Christie came close to pulling one back for Caley in 21 minutes with a shot that sailed only inches over Ure's crossbar. But Caley could make little impression, while County's adventurous play saw McRitchie pull off a finger-tip save when County full back Garry Ross sent in a rising drive from 25yd. Grant came close to completing his hat-trick a minute before the interval when after a superb run from Ferries he scooped his finishing effort over the bar. Caley's second half fightback started almost immediately when with just 17 seconds gone, Wilson ROBERTSON arrived in the County box to power a header past Ure. On the hour mark, Martin Lisle drove in a cross from the right. When it rose high into the air off a County defender, URQUHART was on hand to head home his 13th goal of the season and put Caley back in the game. With County living on their nerves as Caley pushed for the equaliser, Urquhart lifted a chip shot just over the bar after turning quickly on to a Lisle free kick. Four minutes later, Urquhart missed a clear chance to level the score. Wilson eased County's tension in 78 minutes with a 30yd. dipping shot that McRitchie could only tip over the bar. Two minutes from time, Urquhart missed another chance to level the game when he skied a cross from Robertson over the bar from close range.
