Fort William 0 Ross County 4 Defending champions Ross County took the lead in the TSB Highland League title race with a 4-0 win over Fort William at Claggan Park. County had things pretty much their own way against a Fort William side which conceded the midfield area after a bright start, allowing Cammy Robertson and Gordon Connelly more or less to dictate matters. With so much possession County should have done a better job of knocking over Fort in the first half and that was the story of the game with chances going begging and County barely getting out of second gear. Fort playmaker Drummond looked to be the only threat to County, running at the visiting back four in the fifth minute only to shoot wide and from then on County simply took over, scoring two goals in as many minutes to put themselves in the driving seat. Former Don Andy MCLEOD opened the scoring in 15 minutes, drilling home a simple chance laid on by Alan Duff who nodded a Robertson cross into his path 10 yards out. Almost immediately, DUFF beat Fort's offside trap and ran on unopposed to tuck a 12 yard grounder inside the advancing Fort keeper's near post. Playing well within themselves, County could have been three ahead midway through the first half, Barry Wilson firing a 20 yard shot over the Fort bar from a well-worked indirect free kick. Fort's best chance to get back into the game fell to Callum MacLean late in the first half when he found space on the right, but dragged his finishing effort wide. The second half saw County's attempts to stretch their lead become more and more desperate and almost comical with Grant, Duff, Connelly and Bellshaw all missing opportunities to finish off Fort. When the third goal finally came it was courtesy of a bad mistake from the Fort keeper who got behind a shot from CONNELLY only to let the ball slip through his legs. And the fourth goal three minutes from time came courtesy of Fort defender John FLANNIGAN, who attempted to block a Robertson shot but instead sent the ball spinning into his own net.
