Ross County 4 Inverness Thistle 1 For the second time within the space of five weeks Inverness Thistle left Victoria Park, Dingwall, last Saturday cuffed to the tune of 4-1. And although it took Ross County quite a while to stamp their authority on the game, once they got into the driving seat there was no doubting where the three league points were going to land. It was last month in the first round of the North of Scotland Cup competition that County trounced the Jags by the same 4-1 score and although County expected perhaps a harder game this time around it was not to be, Thistle having great difficulty, because of injuries, to field their strongest team. But it must be said they more than held their own for a lengthy period until injury struck their already depleted ranks again with the waygoing of the injured Kevin Sweeney before the turn. It took big BELLSHAW to lead the way for County with a fine headed goal from a Barry Wilson cross in 38 minutes and when top scorer Brian GRANT back-headed a long Hutchison clearance (the keeper is certainly making his name for this feature as well as being a fine last line of defence) County looked to be in easy street. The Jags had different ideas, however, and with five minutes of the first half left ANDREW took advantage of some sloppy defensive work by County and ran through to give Hutchison no chance. A feature of the second half was not so much the two goals which gave County a convincing victory but the quite unbelievable performance by usually competent whistler Andy Robb of Inverness. In the past we have frequently praised this official here for his capable and fair handling of games involving County. Sadly, we cannot repeat such praise on this occasion and his performance which affected both teams (he certainly didn't take sides!) could only mean he had what is termed in the realm as 'an off day.' Suffice to say, he booked so many players we didn't bother to take a note of who they were or who they played for! County, who had five-star performances from Hutchison, Somerville, MacPherson, Grant and captain Robertson, thankfully did not let the official's tantrums put them off and Alan DUFF and Brian GRANT went on to score one each in 49 and 65 minutes to put the issue well beyond doubt and keep County up there with the leaders and with every chance of retaining the championship.
