Brora Rangers 1 Ross County 0 Brora Rangers last Saturday joined Inverness Caley and Thistle as the only teams to inflict a league defeat on Ross County this season. And while it was a bad mistake by County keeper Mike Ure that let battling Brora steal the points no one could have grudged this shock Christmas present for the Dudgeon Park side who had four players ruled out before a ball was even kicked. And the result must have given great delight and satisfaction to Brora boss, Dingwallian and one-time County manager John Buchanan who must have been beginning to think his job was on the line after that 6-0 Dingwall drubbing by County the previous Saturday. Revenge was sweet indeed for the men of Dudgeon Park who lost the Services of the Mackay brothers, captain Donald Allan and a reserve when their car was in a crash as they made their way from Caithness to the to the Game. Manager Buchanan found himself forced to name himself as a sub and then on the winning side as County crumbled. Perhaps the loss of play maker Gordon Connelly had an adverse effect on County's showing, the little mid-field dynamo having to leave the field after only 25 minutes with an ankle knock. But while County, so often holding the upper hand, looked as if they could play all day without scoring, it was Brora who got the all important goal in the 69th minute to take the three points. And it was a tragedy for goalkeeper Mike Ure who left his charge to go to the edge of the area to clear and only managed to hit the ball to Brora's GARDINER who lobbed the shocked keeper and that was that. County tried desperately to come back but found the shutters up with Brora keeper Stewart in great form and no doubt forgetting the previous week's six-goal nightmare. To add to County's tale of woe Robbie Williamson was also injured and along with Connelly will be in a race to get fit for Saturday's cup tie at Berwick.
