Fort William 1 Ross County 0 Fort William's teenage keeper Ronnie MacPherson has become one of the North's hottest properties after putting in a brilliant performance at Claggan Park on Saturday. The 19-year-old local lad broke Ross County's hearts as fighting Fort knocked the holders out of the McEwan's Lager North of Scotland Cup. Beaten County boss Bobby Wilson said: "Danny Conlon has unearthed a real gem in young Ronnie MacPherson. He saved more certain goals than I think I have seen in one game. "One save from Brian Grant, when he held a header going into the top corner, was almost world-class. He has a big future ahead of him if he works at his game." The winner came from ex-Arturlie striker Carlo GIRASOLI as Fort hit County with a great move on the break just before the interval. In the second half, the Lochaber side defended solidly with help from their inspired keeper. Fort boss Danny Conlon said: "We have been playing well with-out getting the breaks and beating County was a just reward for the way my players have applied themselves. "We had to switch Peter Murphy to centre half when Kevin Reilly called off on Saturday morning and both he and Ian Jackson responded well with a great second-half defensive performance. "We knocked County out of the league cup on their own ground earlier this season and this win will be just as big a lift for everyone at Claggan Park." Fort's win earns them a quarter-final tie against Caley at Telford Street on Saturday, February 6, and leave County, who have also lost their grip on the Tennents Highland League Cup, to concentrate on the League title race.
