| Comments | Match Report Report from the North Star. Ross County 0 Forres Mechanics 2 The least said about last Wednesday's Inverness Cup tie the better. The Highland League side fully deserved their victory in front of 200 hardy fans on a rain-soaked night that anyone associated with Ross County will want to forget in a hurry. The entire County starting line-up was comprised of players who have first team experience, but instead of taking the chance to impress their manager who was watching from the stands, most let themselves down badly. Only Davie MacKay and teenager Martin Canning came through the tie with any credit and Steve Ferguson was obviously using the match as a warm up for Saturday's encounter with Alloa and he came off after an hour. It was County old boys Gordon Connelly and Johnstone Bellshaw who stole the show as the Mechanics completely outplayed their more illustrious hosts. Connelly was at his mercurial best, twisting and turning in the middle of the park and setting up endless Forres attacks. It was just like old times except for the colour of the shirt. Steve MacDonald headed Forres into a deserved lead in the 36th minute and the diminutive Charlie Brown scored a spectacular second within seconds of the restart when he found the net from 25 yards to cap a polished display. Michael Geraghty, who had another blank day, has since moved on to Clydebank. |
