| Comments | Match Report Report by Dave Edwards for the Press & Journal. Clyde 0 Ross County 0 Ross County manager Neale Cooper should have been happy with a share of the points against Second Division league leaders Clyde, but the former Don want to win every game between now and the end of the season. Cooper said: "Although Clyde have a good record at home, we had to settle for a draw when it was so important that we picked up all three points. We really missed the influence of the injured Derek Ferguson in midfield as he would have been able to put his foot on the ball and slow things down. "Our strikers need to do something a bit special in the box to create chances, both for themselves and for others, but we failed to do that a Broadwood. "But on the other hand I was very happy with the performance of my defence, especially young Garry Hamilton in goal. "In addition, Kenny Gilbert, still playing with one eye shut, was an inspiration with a tremendous attitude to the game. He along with Ian Maxwell, Brian Irvine and our young goalkeeper, were my star performers. "I'd certainly settle for third place at the end of the season now with Partick Thistle closing in and Arbroath not that far away, so a win at Stenhousemuir on Tuesday night is vital to keep our promotion hopes on track." Clyde boss Alan Maitland felt County had settled for a draw long before the final whistle had sounded. He said: "In all honestly it was a very poor game but I think Ross County were satisfied with a draw. They had a lot of attacking players on the park but failed to create any clear-cut chances throughout the game. "Their young goalie was very competent and kicks the ball for miles. but on a surface that is drying out all the time and becoming a wee bit bumpy in places, good passing was at a premium." County's keeper was the hero of the hour after surviving a nervy start to firstly deny Mark McLaughlin on the turn and Andy McClay with a 40-yard effort with 15 minutes left on the clock. County's best chance fell to Steve Ferguson in the 54th minutes but when the ball dropped to him in a crowded goalmouth, he lofted weakly over the top. |
