| Comments | Match Report Report from the Green Final. Ross County 1 Arbroath 1 Nicky Walker passed a late fitness test to take his place in the County goal against promotion rivals Arbroath. County made a bright start, and transfer-listed Roy McBain was prominent early on. The aerial threat of Derek Holmes was also causing the Arbroath defence problems. The former Hearts striker came close in the sixth minute but keeper Wight held his attempt. County came even closer when McBain turned the Arbroath defence but his shot rebounded off the post. The visitors were seldom seen as a force and Walker had to pull off a fine save from McGlashan in the 17th minute. Arbroath were coming more into the match, and a deep cross from Cooper had Walker back-tracking to collect the ball. But it was County who took the lead in the 24th minute when Wight could only parry a Derek Ferguson shot, and Steve Ferguson followed up to score from close range. The pace of the game dropped noticeably after the goal, but County still held the upper hand with Derek Ferguson showing some nice touches. Arbroath threatened in the 37th minute when Walker did well to keep out a point blank header from Sellars. Arbroath were first to show at the start of the second half and Sellars headed narrowly past Walker's right hand past. Thomson and Gallacher were booked in quick succession as County regained the initiative. But it was Arbroath who silenced the crowd when Tosh smashed the ball home. Worse was to follow for County when Ian Maxwell was red carded for a wild tackle. |
