| Comments | Match Report Report from the Green Final. Ross County 2 Queen of the South 0 Derek Ferguson made his home debut for County this afternoon against basement boys Queen of the South. A Kinnaird corner in 10th minute almost produced the opener but Irvine's header was cleared before Ross could get the final touch. A rasping shot from Kenny Gilbert in the 15th minute was spilled by Hillcoat, But the Queen's keeper gathered the loose ball before it crossed the line. The home goal survived a real scare in the 27th minute when Thomson completely misread a pass back but the ball trickled harmlessly past for a corner. Queen's best chance fell to Mallan in the 40th minute but his shot was brilliantly blocked by Thomson. Thomson made another fine save in injury time when he tipped a Dickson shot for a corner. McBain replaced Ross at the start of the second half. Hillcoat failed to hold Kinnaird's shot in the 46th minute, but McBain was caught offside as the ball broke free to substitute. Gilbert had another good effort on goal in the 56th minute, but Hillcoat carried his shot at the near post. County took the lead at the hour mark when Kinnaird scored direct from a corner on the left. County almost added to their lead when a flashing header from Steve Ferguson tipped just over. But County did not have long to wait for goal number two as Kinnaird sent over his seventh corner of the game in the 67th minute. Irvine rose high in the box to head home. |
