New signing Mark Duthie, from Ayr United, lined up in the County defence for this top of the table clash with Alloa.
County won a corner kick in two minutes but when the ball broke to Escalon, the Frenchman shot straight at Cairns.
From their next corner, a couple of minutes later, County took the lead.
Lennon's flag kick was left by Escalon and Holmes volleyed the ball home from 15 yards.
County were well on top in the early stages with Roy McBain prominent in his new midfield role.
In Alloa's first attack of real substance, Cameron threaded the ball out to Little but the Waspes' striker shot straight into the arms of Walker.
At the other end, new boy Duthie made a brilliant 40 yard run, before laying the ball off for Shaw. But the former Dundee striker's shot was well saved by Cairns.
The Wasps were making few inroads and County continued to dictate the pace of the game as the half progressed.
The best the visitors could muster was a long range effort from Wilson in 37 minutes that flew well wide of the target.
Both teams were adopting long term tactics in the second period to little effect, with play bogged down in the middle of the park.
Donaghy was booked for a tackle on MacKay in the 68th minute.
But in a quick burst of action around the County goal, Walker tipped over a Wilson header, and Lennon cleared off the goal line from the resulting corner.
Cameron, who was Alloa's most dangerous player, could not believe his eyes when Walker somehow got a hand to his goal-bound effort in the 72nd minute as the visitors continued to hold the upper hand.
But despite Alloa's dominance it was County who found the net again five minutes from time, but Holmes clearly handled the ball over the line and was booked for his trouble.
