Ross County 2 Dunfermline 2
Ross County were pegged back after earning a two-goal lead against Dunfermline Athletic, having to settle for a point when the final whistle was blown.
Two early goals from Kieran Phillips had appeared to put County in a commanding position, before goals in each half from Dunfermline’s Callum Morrison and Andrew Tod levelling the scores.
A red card in stoppage time for Sean Mackie essentially ruined any hopes the Staggies had of finding a winner, but they did at least hold on for a point.
County had the first clear sight of goal in the match, with Connor Randall taking aim from the edge of the box but seeing his effort comfortably held by Aston Oxborough.
Less than two minutes later, Randall then linked up well with Jamie Lindsay - playing on the left of midfield - who saw his own shot turned behind for a corner.
That early pressure was rewarded in the 12th minute, when County took the lead.
Lindsay did well to turn his marker on the left flank and switch the play to Jay Henderson, who quickly slipped Kieran Phillips through.
He still had plenty of work to do, going around an on-rushing Oxborough on the right side of the box, but finished expertly to pick out the far top corner of the empty net.
Phillips would make it 2-0 minutes later, with Uche Ikpeazu easing Pars skipper Kyle Benedictus off a high ball inside the Dunfermline penalty box before teeing up Phillips to smash home again.
It was very nearly three midway through the half, with Ikpeazu meeting Sean Mackie’s corner only to see Chris Kane hook his header off the line, and although County would find the net via Dylan Smith in the chaotic aftermath the offside flag was raised, keeping their advantage at two.
Dunfermline pulled one back a little over 10 minutes before half time, with Callum Morrison finding the bottom corner directly from a free kick.
If that put doubts in the minds of Staggies supporters, a frantic first 15 minutes of the second period would have done nothing to ease their nerves – albeit Trevor Carson remained largely untroubled in the County goal.
Dunfermline would claim an equaliser just as the clock hit 68 minutes, with a well-worked move down the left-hand side resulting in a tap in from a yard out for Andrew Tod, drawing the scores level at 2-2.
The Pars would go in search of a lead of their own, and Josh Cooper hit a powerful effort at the end of one counter attack, forcing a good stop out of Carson.
As the game entered stoppage time, County were reduced to 10 men when Mackie was shown a second yellow card for a cynical foul.
Elsewhere, with Raith Rovers beating Airdrieonians, the Staggies moved off the foot of the table, but they lost ground to outright safety.
