Ross County 0 Montrose 1
Ross County centre half Johnston Bellshaw was stiff, sore, but delighted yesterday after making a surprise--but successful--comeback following a seven-month absence with a knee injury.
Bellshaw did not know until 10pm on Friday that he would be making his belated Third Division debut, but manager Bobby Wilson called him in when Chris Somerville reported unfit."I knew the rain would make for a slower pace and that would help Johnston settle in," said Bobby.
Bellshaw damaged cruciate ligaments last April and at one stage there were even doubts about his football future.
This second successive home defeat--County have won only two of seven home games--means the Dingwall men have plunged 13 points behind the leaders.
But manager Wilson admitted: "Realistically, I'd have settled before the season started for 15 points at this stage. We've had plenty of problems but Bellshaw's return is a signal that things may be beginning to turn our way."
And Wilson was happier with his team's commitment than in the 4-1 defeat by East Stirling the week before.
With Somerville and Alan Duff out, they battled hard in a rain-lashed affair which, though never rising to great heights, certainly had its moments.
Montrose front pair Colin McGlashan and Alan Kennedy showed their class throughout and it was the lively Kennedy who headed the only goal of the game on the hour mark.
