Ross County 2 Clyde 0
Paul Kinnaird spiced up Ross County with a posh free-kick then demanded to be nicknamed Backs.
He fired in the kind of spectacular set-piece effort which has become the trademark of Manchester United hero David Beckham.
And Kinnaird told his team-mates: "From now on, the name is Paul Beckham, okay."
Boss Neale cooper, who was delighted to see his side end a run of three defeats in a row, said: "Paul has asked us to call him Beckham.
"He's not shy at the best of times and it was a great goal. He's one of the best set-piece takers I've seen. It was a fantastic finish from 25 yards--although I'm sure Paul will say he hit it from 45 yards!"
It was Kinnaird's first goal of the season and the former Dundee United, and Motherwell star didn't hesitate to lob in a Beckham reference when he spoke about his strike.
The 33-year-old said: "I was delighted. It's great when you watch players like Beckham take free-kicks. You think: I'd love to score goals like that.
"Luckily, I put it in the top corner and it was great for the team, the fans and Ross County after the bad run we've had."
Kinnaird admitted his gesture to County fans as he celebrated the goal was in reaction to the pelters he's taken from a section of the support.
Some have mistaken his laid-back style for a lack of conviction but he said: "People expect so much of me because I've played at such a high standard.
"Although they are right to demand the best, they should recognise it is a team game. I think they know I can play and in fairness I haven't always produced it."
Kinnaird, who had been out injured for five weeks, is now convinced victory will enable County to bury the Mark Hateley episode. He said: "I think we expected the Hateley of Rangers at the age of 31 or 32.
"But it wasn't a case of Neale Cooper losing his bottle, as Mark has claimed.
"The gaffer has tons of bottle--he wouldn't be bringing in players like Hateley if he didn't."
Kinnaird scored in 19 minutes and County were well in control by the time John Fraser scored the second in 66 minutes. But Fraser, booked in 51 minutes, was sent off a minute after his goal for a challenge on Brian Carrigan.
Clyde made a flight of it and Ritchie McCusker hit the bar then saw a goal-bound shot hit his team-mate Martin McLauchlin.
Relieved Cooper said: "We rode our luck against Clyde who were a good side.
"I sympathised with John Fraser for his sending off, because there was no aggression in it, but the referee saw it his way and I won't argue."
Clyde boss Alan Maitland could hardly believe McCusker's shot hadn't found the net.
He said: "There might have been a way back had that gone in but County had the breaks."
